PanImage Media Tablet R79RT2W5 with google apps

Post by ExMORTIUS on Sun Dec 12, 2010 3:36 am

This is my first attempt at modding a rom, but i got Google market, gmail installed and working.

1. download the Panimage rom *
2. extract to root of sd card
3. download my modded pre root disk
4. on sd card open script directory and delete pre_root_disk folder
5. unzip my modded pre_root_disk to the sdcard script directory.

its quick and dirty but works(so far)

the pre_root_disk files come from Tweaked WMT2.1.1_105 Rooted ROM MOD Beta M150010b 11/19/10
you can not copy it directly from that rom, or the wifi will not work.

I found the info to do this from a post HERE
Credit to tipstir.

Here is a *
to the compiled rom. unzip to a directory on your pc then copy the
script directory to the sd card. some ppl say unzipping to the sd card
can cause corruption.

Tks!

Mine, with stock ROM, reads Firmware 1.6.1. All else is the same. Any idea if this difference may be caused by the pre-root contents?

Or perhaps you refer to the new ROM as it comes, before adding the pre-root mod?

Very well done

Post by garwal on Thu Dec 16, 2010 12:59 pm

After many hours with this cheap device I was beginning to wonder what I would do with it, not much good for a MP3 player , to big Smile I tried several other roms in an effort to get the app store on but kept getting errors about the kernel Wink might not support this type nand rom. Your rom loaded very well and now I can use it for my net radio and several other apps so not all is lost. I still can not get Pandora Radio to work properly? I think this processor does not have enough HP, any suggestions welcome. I will list later apps I have gotten to work. Great work and I thank you.

Use the Pandora in Power 145 under Downloads. Don't upgrade it. Use AndroidPit as your Market Replacement. but if you use one of the Rooted ROMs you have Market now.

Hi all, I dont know what i am doing wrong, but i have been at this for hours and have yet to successfully install any mods. I installed 7 zip on my computer so that i could extract the file and it still did not work. it installs and then i pull the sd card and restart it and it boots up and then goes blank. I tried the script.zip file and it loaded fine but when i tried to set up my wifi it couldnt connect. it said that my network was out of range. I finally started all over again with just the firmware update from pandigital and that installed fine but I am back where i started after all this time. This is very frustrating. Help!

when you were having the wifi problems did you reboot it and try the wifi again? I had a similar problem trying to connect to wifi right after the update, i rebooted and tried wifi again and it connected fine. thees panimages can be a little temperamental.

No, I didnt. I ended up just removing the sd card, deleting the script file and reloading the firmware update from panimage. I really would like to have the google apps market. The market that comes pre loaded is lacking. Is there any way to update these devices to android 2.0 or higher? Still for the price this is a good buy. I am still pleased with the purchase, just frustrated with the modding thing.

I really need any information anyone can supply that would let me know why every rom upgrade including the Panimage original, the last 3 tipstir offered here and the solutions both exmortius and vahidbaq offered all fail after loading u-boot and then not findnig a udisk. if i do connect a udisk then the entire script seems to work perfectly but after it tells me to remove the sdcard and it shuts down when i restart it, the tablet just boots to the bios panimage screen showing WMT2.1.6_PD_N

I am getting desprate as this is a christmas gift for my wife and I want to give it to her before she leaves to visit family

This is brand new tablet even though Flytouch1 it's based on as only been out this summer 2010. You'll have to wait on that one. I can give you Market access for now.

New issue, I did install the OEM with the Market and it was working well. Starting over the weekend, I can no longer download apps from Market. Is says starting download, but never actually does it. I tried rebooting and attempting the install again with no luck. I can install apps with the market that came with the Panimage. Any Ideas why this starting happening?

Look at the first post of this thread. It explains where to get the OEM version and change the pre_root_disk to the one with the Market in it. Then install it on the PanImage.

I have contacted Pandigital today to see why their firmware update was not available. The customer service rep stated they are having website issues at the moment and try later today. Otherwise if it still persists, to call them later this afternoon.

Hello,

new forum member here. I received the panimage from QVC for christmas model # R79RTW5 build WMT 2.1.3_PD_N with android 1.6 . i have been trying to decide whether to keep it or send it back. Like the above poster i have for 3 days now been trying to download the firmware update, it either stalls out or never starts. They don't answer the phone or call back or respond to emails so far. i have a couple of weeks to mess with it before i decide to keep it or not.

The problems with it are that half the time it doesn't boot, black screen after pan image logo, restart usually fixes this. It seems to run warm and the battery life sucks and it a little slow. When it works i kinda like it.

My questions are as follows: will the update from panimage or an update from here address these problems? there's no notes on the firmware update on the pan image website. i understand from reading this forum that an updated rom is being worked on by tipstir for the panimage, will this address the above issues. Can i install a newer android os [2.0, 2.2, 2.3 ] on this device and have it work without problems. where do i get it and how do i install it [just download and run install program?]

This is my first tablet and since i dont have an ipad budget i'd like to keep this one, for what it does i kinda like it. hopefully the problems can be resolved.
Great informative web site by the way, i was just about to send it back out of frustration. After reading in this forum i think i'll wait and play with it awhile and see how it goes. Thank you for any help or guidance you can provide.

Try downloading from the panimage site again. I downloaded it successfully this morning. It timed out a few times again at first and then I tried later and it worked.

Finally got the download from the panimage web site and installed without issue. now shows 2.1.6. ... was wondering if this will improve the battery life? to soon to tell. it hasn't black screen on boot yet, like it was., but only turned it on 3 times, will see. The question i still have is can i update to a newer version of android from 1.6 or is the cpu in this thing not up to it? Where can i get the update and how to install and which version can i update to that will work well for this machine. Advice appreciated. Thank you.

I know your still running the update from panimages main website. If that's working for you then that's good. If you want to check out the new beta 5 LF-A rom that is out which makes the panimage tablet much better. Check this out--->WMT2.1.6_105_LF-A_V1.0B5_script.7z

This is a beta that is fully getting tested right now and seems to be stable. If offers much more as far as option go. If you need help installing it or just have some questions let me know.

Post by *budd* on Mon Jan 03, 2011 9:35 pm

Thx for the reply b33zudroid, I'm currently running the oem+market without issue, since i upgraded from 2.1.3 it boots everytime and battery life is alot better.I put the panimage one on it but the market sucked, so i switched. I'm learning as i go, but as i understand it fully rooted is having access to everything on the device and being able to switch things you couldn't if not rooted. I have android assistant on the device to try to free up memory and prevent start up of certain things, but they always come back on, which i'm guessing is because it's not rooted? My memory is around 115 after boot.

Could you explain to me what in the different versions [LF-A, LF-X, LF-C] what low, mid and full control mean? More information will help me decide which version is right for me.

Nobody responded to my question about the android os ,
maybe you could help me out. Will the QVC panimage run a newer android os like 2.0 or does it not have the horsepower and slow it down too much? If it can ,can you tell where to get it and how to install it, [please explain it like i am a 3 year old Very Happy ] .

Great site and thx to all the people putting in the work.

Yes being fully rooted will allow the tablet to "if you will" be unlocked. If you run the Beta 5 rom you should have between 130mb and 145mb free. The "LF-A, LF-X, and LF-C" are different roms which all do different things. Example one has hardly any speed but is stable and all functions are working. The next has decent speed and half of the functions working. Last has super speed, but most functions are cut out. I guess that's as basic as I could put it. If your on the panimage tablet. I would recommend the link I posted above. It's faster, tested stable, and has decent battery life. The market fully works, and is 50% rooted. Meaning some rooted apps will install and others won't. Our goal is to get all the tablets 100% rooted.

As far as the newer OS builds like 2.0+ Tipstir is working hard to get the most out of these tablets. I wouldn't put it past him to look into it soon if he hasn't already.

I'm sorry nobody responded to your OS questions earlier. It's been kinda busy around here but if you have any other questions. Please let me know. Smile

Thx again,
I'll look into the LF-A see if whats missing is something i can live without, Might wait for the 100 % root. There a document in the download to say what works and what doesn't i would assume. Lastly will switching firmware alot cause any damage to the device. Thanks for the information and i'll keep an eye on these boards for any running a newer OS on these tablets info. Thx again and sorry for all the questions, my momma always said i ask too many questions Very Happy .

I call it questioning collaboration and it's a very good tool. It helps the community grow. So don't be sorry. There is info in each rom that tells you what you get and what you don't. Also if you install correctly each time. There shouldn't be any worry about damaging anything. The only thing I would recommend when flashing is after you complete a flash to let your microsd card cool down. If I do multiple flashes I will wait 10-15 min after. I've gone through a good handful because I flash roms to a lot of different devices. Definitely keep an eye on the boards. Everyday there is something new. Wink

Go to settings, about & post your firmware version, build etc. then look in panimage section for ROMs with the same build.

exmortius wrote:This is my first attempt at modding a rom, but i got Google market, gmail installed and working.

1. download the Panimage rom HERE
2. extract to root of sd card
3. download my modded pre_root_disk
4. on sd card open script directory and delete pre_root_disk folder
5. unzip my modded pre_root_disk to the sdcard script directory.

its quick and dirty but works(so far)

the pre_root_disk files come from Tweaked WMT2.1.1_105 Rooted ROM MOD Beta M150010b 11/19/10
you can not copy it directly from that rom, or the wifi will not work.

I found the info to do this from a post HERE
Credit to tipstir.

sorry not a computer wiz can this be simplified dwn to a step by step cause i have no idea what the purpose of it is for and exactly how to execute it??HELP!!!

This is a Old way, when the panimage first came out. I am assuming you have a panimage. Use one of there Roms

HoneyComb V9 for PanImage Build WMT216, 3.22.11 HERE

or

HoneyBee v2.0 HERE

They both Have vast improvements over the oem Rom
