Finally got my A28
Finally arrived, boy is egg saver shipping slow! Price lowered 10 bucks while I was waiting for it to arrive
Going to play around with it just a bit more here and then will be writing the best review I can for all considering it.

Review
I got the Archos 28 IT 4GB from newegg for $99 w/ free shipping. (Couple days later saw the price drop to 89.99 at Kmart and Sears)
Anyways...
It booted up the android 2.1 firmware. I found it easy to setup and download the firmware for android 2.2. All went smoothly. Next I got the gapps4archos2.apk to put the google market on it since the archos only comes with applib which imo sucks. This also went smoothly. I've been able to d/l all kinds of games and apps most all have worked.
One note on an app the didn't work for me is my favorite ebook reader- Aldiko. Must be because of the screen size but the words would not match up to the screen and only got off by more and more with every page I turned. I tried changing settings like margins etc all to no avail. Ended up getting laputa pro which works perfectly and I'm just as happy as with aldiko.
The screen is obviously small for an ereader but as long as you have decent eyes and get the word size etc setup right I've found it enjoyable enough to use. The device is so light weight and small I can easily take it anywhere and start comfortably reading or gaming.
Games- have only tested a handful so far but all have worked with one problem
Heavy games like Angry Birds I have to make sure I'm on a fresh boot for it to run properly and then after I'm done sometimes the device freezes and I usually find myself doing a reboot.
I believe this is because much to my suprise the archos 28 comes with 128mb ddr
I have hardly anything ever running and always have basically no memory available 128 mb with froyo sucks. Newegg nor archos website listed the amount of memory the device contained. Guess they want to gloss over its weakest point and hope people don't notice.
I know its a very low priced device but I'd happily have paid at least a few bucks for it to have at least 256mb ram.
K lets see what else... well wifi is iffy. Works great about 70% of the time. Other 30% it just craps out and then comes back as soon as I exit the browser or w/e and take a look at the connection.
Screen is very responsive I find it ez to use except when it comes to using the keyboard ( screen is so small I find I need to use a stylus to accurately hit the right keys)
Colors on the screen are nice and bright. I'm getting good battery life out of it. Its ez to charge just use the usb cable and connect to the pc where you can either click charge only or mount. If you mount its very ez to copy over any epubs or .apks you have on your computer you want to toss onto it.
All in all I'm happy with it. I would be very happy with it if it had 256mb ram. I think they messed up big there. Same with the archos 70 and 101 that I'm told does have 256 well they messed up there cause those should have 512!
Only other thought is that the cpu is awesome. Seems so fast and powerful when one it used to a via 8505.
Uncool thing on cpu is is down steps to 300mhz (good for battery I guess but I don't like it stepping down that far on me I'd like to be able to control that maybe set it at 600 or w/e. That option should be up to the user if you ask me.
First review I've done hope it didn't suck and ramble to bad. Did I leave anything out that someone is curious about? Please ask anything you want or offer me tips if you know things I don't like how to get more out of 128mb of memory.

Re: Finally got my A28
Your review is very good, because you told it like it is. Ownship of a product helps. Area you keeping it? I just did a full data wipe on the 32 and I'll send that back to Amazon. They already gave me the pre-paid package label for shipping. I don't like that it freezes to much and has wacko keys on keyboard that are not accurate. Plus iffy WiFi. I see that the 28 isn't any better to use.
I think right now I'll wait for tablets to reach more than 256MB RAM free and larger internal storage RAM. 256MB and 8GB internal isn't enough with OS 2.2.

Re: Finally got my A28
Thanks Tipstir I do like the A28 but it feels like it just falls short. Shows me what a great tablet will be like but it just isn't there yet.
Your lucky though with amazon, newegg whom I bought mine from told me to go suck an egg. I've had great luck with them in the past but when I politely asked for an rma ,to at least change it in for an A32 which I think I would like at least a bit better, and explained the memory thing and freezes etc. They sent me back an email saying the item is nonrefundable and thats that. So guess I'm gonna have to learn to really like the A28 its not really heavy enough to make a decent paperweight.
To others I agree with you wait until less buggy, more ram, and more internal memory.

I only order HDDs from Newegg. I've learn my lesson not to order and return devices to them. I got slammed with huge restocking fee where the device had a faulty LCD panel. Still never again. Buy and Amazon have been fair with me. QVC, HSN are even better they don't play games with you. But now you got A28, just have to wait it out. But you know one thing why don't you contact Archos and see what they can do for you? I never bother. I just ship the A32 back tomorrow using USPS as that's how Amazon shipped it out to me, not by UPS. Funny thing is that i had paid for shipping it faster to me and they still use USPS and not USP go figure!
