After expanding their note-taking software OneNote onto Apple’s iOS range of devices in December, Microsoft has followed up by releasing a version for Android which is now available for download through the Android Market. With the Redmond based giant's cross-platform divergence almost complete, the mobile version of their app is now available on Windows Phone, iPhone, iPad and now Android tablets and smartphones.



"No matter which platform you prefer, OneNote Mobile lets you easily capture and access all of your notes and ideas on the go," Michael Oldenburg of Microsoft wrote in a blog post yesterday. Those wishing to use the app will need to login with a Windows Live ID in order to automatically sync notebooks to Microsoft’s Live SkyDrive.

The interface has a Windows Phone feel to it and offers users with most of the commonly used functionality of the bigger computer based versions, as well as synchronization with Microsoft Office 2010 products.


The Android version features text formatting, images and bulleted lists as well as to-do lists with clickable checklists. You’ll also be able to capture photos using your phone's camera, store and access OneNote notebooks, sync notes over Wi-Fi (as an alternative to SkyDrive sync), and store notebooks for offline access. The portable version also offers table editing and a built-in spell checker.

Two versions will be offered, the first free to download but capping usage at 500 notes, or a paid version which offers unlimited notes for a one time fee of $4.99 for US customers. Pricing for other regions will follow shortly.
