I also have the same problem with fake Android from China

Post by tbanks01 on Thu Mar 15, 2012 12:36 am

I also have the same displayed (Android 3.3; while the tablet is Android 1.6). There is not one reference to manufacture, hardware (chip sets or any other) found on the box, user manual, or markings on the tablet. When I say no reference I mean no reference. Since you should know chip set when you upgrade (root or ROM) this is a conundrum. There are areas in China known for this kind of distribution and literally millions of victims to this wholesale rip off. Any help from the community would be very much appreciated, short of opening the device (running the risk of it fall apart) I'm not sure how to proceed (need CPU and chip set info). CPU ID programs require root and root requires CPU ID; thanks China!!! I have read hundreds of post, and no I didn't buy this piece of Junk (won it) but my heart goes out to all the people who did buy one.

Those are build numbers meaning you still have Android OS 1.6 just being modified into something they call it Android Build 3.3. Doesn't mean you got Android OS 3.0. It's cheaper to sell tablets with Android OS 1.6, but today it's Android OS 2.3.3 Gingerbread, Honey Comb 3.2.1 and Ice Cream 4.0.3. That's almost 4x OS from where your at now. The last Build I support is 2.1.7 for Android OS 1.6.

Hi Tipstir;

Please help me sort this all out for the community:

You wrote, "The last Build I support is 2.1.7 for Android OS 1.6." Can I infer then that after 2.17 is installed another ROM can take the device to at least 2.3
(given that Google states android has minimum hardware specs of 256 MB RAM, and 3.0 and above 2.3 require video acceleration. Also, 2.3 is minimum requirement for APPS Market and Flash); without APPS Market and Flash these devices, original selling for 100s of dollars, might as well be brick (just marginally better).

It would seem that millions of units are as of the last several weeks, since the change to apps market, the requirements for flash, and the difficulty finding software that will work on generic tablets under 2.3, all but useless. Assuming I'm correct, I suggest you consider selling a solution that is bullet proof for $5-10 (donations are great but this effort may require a business model to ensure sustainability) to fund continuing development to revive what amounts 100s of millions of dollars invested by the early adopters.

In the mean time maybe you can give us a road map to bring our units up to 2.3. I have transversed these forums for over 10 days and still have more questions than answers. For example I see that you have a ROM for 2.12_88 put when I get to forum page I think it should be on I see 2.1.2_M series (something like that) of course we are all aware one mistake and the unit is bricked.

A solution might be for example (just an example mind you ); this is how up back up your ROM without root...
This is a link to an app that will show your processor
This is the link to wmt2.1.2_88 ROM update
This is how you get to 2.3 (flash and app market; the goal) from 2.1
These are the tools you will need
and finally: This is what I think would be enough beer to help me recover from the drudgery of this exercise :-)

Thanks for all your help, in the end, I'm sure I will get it done as a result of your efforts, including an adequate donation :-)
