Battery Life
My battery seems to discharge very, very quickly. If I am just using the reader, it lasts longer. If I surf the web, check email, etc. it discharges very quickly. Tech support wrote me and told me that the Coby has about 300 charge/discharges on the battery. Sometimes, I charge it twice a day! If I have to replace the battery, how is that done? Also, if I use the Coby while plugged in, does that count as a charge? Sorry for the "novice" questions, but I am trying to learn all I can about my new toy. Thanks!

Re: Battery Life
300 charges that's not a lot. If you charge for 1 year every day then you're going to have to replace the battery.

Re: Battery Life
Coby Tech Help just emailed me and said that we could not replace our own batteries - we had to send the whole unit back in. And they charge for the shipping. Do you know of any way that we could replace our own batteries in this unit? I am having to charge it ALOT and I am sure the battery will not last long at this rate. Thanks!

Re: Battery Life
I say call up HSN and complain. They can't sent you another one since it doesn't seem to be more in stock. I did notice HSN members gave the device 1.7 stars. That's pretty bad. Mine locked up after a reset and it's going back since it stopped working. I told HSN I want to get a full-refund! HSN told me I have to wait 7 to 21 days for Coby to send me a UPS tab and have the UPS driver pick it up. Crazy! I don't think HSN shipped this to me I think it came from the Shipper (Coby)
I just got something else. It's in the forum posted soon be.. I going to get it tonight and see how that goes. I've gone through 7 of these tablets so far.

Re: Battery Life
Are you saying you've gone through 7 Coby tablets???? Were any of them the 7015 model? Mine seems pretty decent so far.

Re: Battery Life
Since this thread is on battery life, I am curious to ask what everyone is getting with the 7015 model? Tipster said in another thread he was getting 6-7 hours with 7005. I think I'm getting about half of that with 7015 although I haven't done a strict test yet. What are the rest of you guys getting?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Is that with 7005 or 7015? I have a theory on the new model. Tipster said his (7005) had two batteries which gave him 6 - 7 hours and the power adapter puts out 9 volts. My power adapter puts out only 5 volts and I get about half of the run time that he is getting. Lithium Ion batteries run at a nominal 3.7 volts each cell, so I think maybe the new model (7015) only has one battery and so gets half the run time.

Re: Battery Life
Yeah, it seems like standby uses quite a bit too. I've noticed that the screen turns on once in a while in standby mode. I don't know why, and I don't know how to make it quit, but if it's doing that all night it's sure to wear down the battery by morning. I guess I'll switch to turning it off completely every night.

Re: Battery Life
Memory Booster Lite and Battery Booster Lite you should be able to save more on the battery.

Re: Battery Life
I get around 5 hours on the 7015. It's been charged 4 times (to full) since Friday after Thanksgiving.

Re: Battery Life
Thanks for all the comments guys. Has anyone else had the other issue I mentioned? Every few minutes in standby mode the screen just turns on for no reason. It shows the unlock screen for just a second then turns back off. Any idea what's causing that or how to fix it?
I guess I should have started a new thread for this issue, but I think it might be related to my battery problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

Battery Test
Well, I finally finished a run down test. I was mostly web surfing, although I did install a few apps and it was mostly a continuous run, except I turned it off completely for one hour for lunch (as standby has significant drain). I also had the brightness all the way down, although I don't know if that made a big difference. Anyway, the result was 7 hours and 15 minutes! I am impressed! I imagine I could even do a little better if I was just reading ebooks with the wifi turned off, but I'll save that test for another day.
I really believe now my earlier problem was due to standby drain, and especially the constant "waking up" issue I haven't been able to get rid of. One night I left it on standby all night and in the morning the battery was at about 85, down from 100 just before I went to sleep (7 or 8 hours). Another time I turned it off completely and in the morning it was still at 100%. So that means that the self discharge of the actual battery is next to zero, but the "vampire drain" on standby is significant, at least compared to my iPod which can stay on standby for a long time and lose very little charge. However, I don't know how this compares to other Android devices. Maybe they are all like this on standby?
Anyway, I hope someone finds this information helpful.

Re: Battery Life
I get about 7 hours as well. I don't bother with standby mode, I just turn it off when I'm done using it. I'm not sure I buy 300 charges, but even if it's true, that means 300 charges from empty to full. If you plug it in to charge when it's only at say 30 or 40% instead of running it to empty, it should last longer. Doesn't really matter to me that much though. In a years time we'll probably all be ready to upgrade to a 3.0 tablet anyway!

Yeah, I don't buy it either. It is well known that Lithium-Ion (and their cousins, Lithium-Polymer) battery life is much more related to battery age than to charge cycles.
"A Standard (Cobalt) Li-Ion cell that is full most of the time at 25 °C (77 °F) irreversibly loses approximately 20% capacity per year." - Wikipedia
