Flash - where to find specs on device

Post by ronilynn11 on Wed Feb 02, 2011 4:14 pm

I wanted to start a new topic on this since I think the conversation got lost in another thread... There was a comment raised on the Shopnbc site from someone that bought the A7 saying they only recieved 2GB instead of the 4 GB Flash... I was trying to check to see what my unit had and could not for the life of me figure out where to find this stat.. Does anyone know?? and has everyone checked their device... If you have gotten 2GB instead of 4GB, I understand you can return it to elocity and they will replace the unit... So nice to deal with a company so close by and responsive....

Right now there isn't any place to check that stat. The software in the A7 isn't reporting the SD storage. If it does say a number it's not correct.

StreamTv is aware of the problem and is working to fix it. I read this morning that another update file is expected to be posted on the A7 support site within days. Hopefully, this will be the update that fixes the problem.

so how did that person know they didn't get 4gb?? I wonder...
ok, so when these updates come out, do they assume you have the prior update installed already or does the new update include the old one??
Also, when we run the update, do we know what we will lose and have to reload????

Did you see that ShopNBC has it back now for $330 without the 6 easy pays.. We certainly got a good deal....

Yes, I saw they have it.

The problem with storage is well documented. The company has been trying to fix it for a while.

The update is inclusive, there shouldn't be more than one update file on the website at a time. It would be a good idea to back-up everything before you do the update. It will keep some things and delete others. It will tell you what will go and stay.

I went into SETTINGS and checked every possible heading line by line for an answer, but found none. I'm almost wondering if a clue to the storage capacity can be found in the model number. The recent arrivals are A7-040 (meaning 4GB perhaps?) Does anyone with the 2GB version have another model number, perhaps A7-020? Some companies try to be cute and cryptic, but consumers usually crack the code quickly.

No, there is only one model right now. If there was another one the pros over at XDA Developers would have found it by now.

The problem is long standing. StreamTV has been trying to fix it since the tablet came out.

Is this the answer?

Post by keriga on Thu Feb 03, 2011 1:36 am

Under SETTINGS, go to SD CARD & DEVICE STORAGE. You'll see INTERNAL DEVICE STORAGE. After TOTAL SPACE, mine says 1.53GB; after AVAILABLE SPACE, it reads 1.52GB. Does that mean that I got one of the 2GB devices instead of the 4GB they advertised and that I paid for? If so, I'll be on the phone with eLocity Customer Support first thing in the morning.

Except for one person who had WiFi connection issues, this question of 2GB vs. 4GB is the only negative comment posted on ShopNBC's Customer Reviews of the the A7.

Below AVAILABLE SPACE is EXTERNAL STORAGE, probably pertaining to the SD card. Despite the fact that I have one inserted now containing music, tapping on that line yields no results.

WE ALL HAVE 4GB OF INTERNAL STORAGE IN OUR A7's! That storage is shared with the firmware required to run the tablet. After that huge file is accounted for we should have about 2GB for our own stuff.

The software in the machine is not reporting the SD card capacity correctly. This has been a problem with the tablet since it shipped StreamTV knows about it and has been trying to fix it. Hopefully, a future update will do just that.
