eLocity Accessories

Post by Daisimae on Sun Jan 30, 2011 3:21 pm

Over at XDA Developers posters were discussing what case they were using for their eLocity A7s. One of the cases mentioned is on eBay. It is less than eight dollars. I figured I would try it out.

The poster who has it reported that you have to move one of the elastics to use the HDMI or USB ports. That isn't a problem for me. I'm getting it mostly for screen protection when I put it in my purse. I've put the link below.

Hello Daisimae, I checked ou the cases for the A7 with a friends help and I negotiated the price with him for $6.50 for each tablet. I ordered 2. There's nothing wrong in having a back up just in case and out here in these other places I checked out some of the prices of the cases and they range anywhere from 25-38 dollars and I managed to get 2 for 13.00 with free s&h. You can't beat that price anywhere. Thanx for the excellent tip. Would not have known about it if you hadn't shared that info. I'm ordering them today and they should get here between the 3rd and the 8th. Also, I saw the same person with screen protectors with 3 in a package for under $5.00 so I might order those too. I might would have to cut them to size to fit the tablet, but it beats getting scratches on the screen during usage. Again I thank you. Mine's is suppose to be here today but im a little afraid to open the box because when I start to use it I might screw something up. I might have to come to this forum for starter help. Any help I get will so greatly be appreciated. Thank you all!!!! Smile

That's wonderful finally390! I hope your tablet comes today.

I have my eye on another low-priced case and a neoprene sleeve too. I'd like to keep the tablet in the case and put both in the sleeve before I put in in my purse.

I'm just waiting to hear back from the eBay seller about the dimensions of the sleeve.

I did some checking around online this morning. The MicroSD card adapter I posted about before is also available at online stores like Amazon, Buy.com, JR.com and NewEgg.com. If you don't want to buy one from eBay, check out those sites too.

I have health issues, hubby and I share a car and of course funds are tight right now. That's why I do most ofour shopping online. The only thing I really buy in-store is food and some clothing. Where my sister lives, there is a discount store that has really nice dresses, pants and tops. I love to shop for clothes there. I visit her a couple time a year and pick up a few things while I'm there. Almost everything else comes from online.

Thanx again Daisimae, I'm like you, I do most of my ordering online because I don't get out much like once a week for groceries and other necessities but other than that, this computer is my way of communication as far as informataion and ordering online. If mine's come today, I will definitely let you all know. Very Happy

Right now, my tablet is residing in a bubble-wrap envelope; too big and impractical for true portability. I've been searching for something to protect my tablet from the jungle of stuff in my handbag, but all I found on Amazon was a generic sleeve and a zippered case. Here's a link.

Daisimae, thanks for the post and link to an A7 case on eBay. That's just what I was looking for and the price is right. Especially nice is the kickstand feature of this portfolio-style case; that makes it easy to display when using as a digital photo frame.

Thanks keriga!

I saw the zippered, Crown case, but, I wanted something portfolio style for a first case then have something zippered to put the tablet in that case in. Of course, none of this protection will help me if I don't remember to stop lobbing my purse into the car like a discus thrower.

I e-mailed the eBay seller of the 7" neoprene sleeve, on your link. I want to know the exact dimensions before I get it. I have a sleeve which looks just like it for my 9" Acer Netbook. The A7 fits in the case, but, there is way too much room for it to move around. I don't mind a little stretch or room, but, i have to have a snugger fit.

I like that sleeve because of the zippered outside pocket. It is good for an adapter and a SD card holder or flash drive.

I e-mailed HDE, the seller of the leather case with pockets for e-readers on amazon.com, but s/he hasn't replied yet.

Found a nicer looking black faux suede sleeve by CaseCrown here, along with a grey one that looks like denim.

There were some neon-colored (orange, green, blue) neoprene sleeves in Office Depot, mainly designed for the iPad, approximately $10-$15, but nothing that was portfolio-style.

Walmart had a nice Sony e-reader portfolio case, but the A7 is just a 1/8" too deep to fit. The outside edges are fixed and rigid, while the interior has elastic bands. I tried, but didn't want to force the tablet into it for fear of the old, "You broke it, you bought it" adage. Too bad because it was just what I was looking for.

It's probably only a matter of time 'til Targus and Body Glove, two of the industry leaders, develop something specifically for the A7.

We can forget about that leather case with pockets from Amazon. Here's our e-mail exchange:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. We believe this will not fit. We do have
sleeves that will fit this device, would that be of interest to you?

To: HDE
Subject: Product details inquiry from Amazon customer

Does your Leather Case with Pockets for eBook eReaders $12.95 fit the
eLocity A7? Dimensions 8.2" (W) x 4.8" (H) x .5" (D) Weight 1.02 lbs. This is an oversized Android Tablet. Several reviewers criticized this product for not fitting Pandigital's Novel and Cruz Reader. I don't want the hassle and expense of having to return an item that doesn't fit. Please advise HONESTLY if this case fits the A7. Thank you.

I purchased WriteRight Static Cling Screen Protectors For Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader Devices ($5.88 Walmart), thinking that they'd fit. They don't; they're too small. Until or unless something is made specifically for the A7, I'll opt for the ones made for the iPad and simply cut to fit.

Also on the topic of screen protection: is it safe to use a stylus on the A7? Even with a screen protector, is there a danger of damaging the screen? Would a stylus even work since the device works based on pressure and body heat?

Does anyone know about battery replacement? Is this something the user can do or must the tablet be returned for factory installation of a replacement? I'm asking because I have an MP3 and a PDA that must be sent back to the manufacturer when the sealed LiIon battery no longer recharges. That's a hassle and I always worry about my device getting lost in transit.

good question on the stylus since I noticed there were some for sale on Ebay supposedly for the A7 (or more likely, just being marketed that way by the sellers)....

Hey there!

No we can't use a stylus with a capacitive screen like the A7 has. They can only be used with resistive screens like the Cobys and Nextbbooks tablets have.

The support info on StreamTV's site says to contact them about battery replacement. Since the tablet does not have a battery door, my best guess is that it would have to be returned to them to have the battery changed.

The battery should be good for hundred and hundreds of charges though. I know people who have similar concerns about iPods. I have a first generation iPod Nano which has to be at least six or seven years old. I haven't had any battery problems with it at all. When it comes to the A7, I'll probably decide to upgrade long before the battery comes to the end of it's life cycle. The only way I'd have to replace it is if it was defective, so far, so good.

Hello,
Just wanted to share that I found a case that fits the E-Locity at Radio Shack. It looks similar to the one mentioned in the XDA forum.
It's by Mercury "Explorer Kindle Case". $24.95. The one mentioned in the other forum is a lot cheaper but this was convienient. Smile

I found a pack of 3 screen protectors at Borders for $9.98. I have not put one on my on my E-Locity yet but they will work.

Thanks ddair!

Was that case originally for Kindle 2 or 3?

I did receive the case I posted about in my first post. It works well, but, I'm also looking to have a spare. I've also ordered some other accessories. They should all be here soon. When I receive them and can verify they work properly, I'll post about them and take some pictures.

Daisemae,
I do not know which model as I do not have a Kindle. The upper right corner of the packaging says "Amazon Kindle" (6" Display) and the Model" M-K2C410 is on the back lower left corner.

It has a nice soft micro suede interior and a tab that folds. It stands up well when folded back. I've only seen it in Black but it is a nice sturdy case. Smile
One item I would like to have as an option is a stylus(Heated?) to utilize. I am not used to the touchscreen and have an issue at times "touching precisely" the correct area, especially in turning web pages. LOL

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find it at RadioShack.com. I did find it at Amazon and ButterflyPhoto.com.

I've never heard of a heated stylus. Learning to touch the right place on the screen is an art. I'm getting better at it as I go along. I'm one of the weird people who like resistive screens better because I can use my nail and actually see what I'm touching.

I'm not sure whether this is the same product, since it's spelled Merkury instead of Mercury, however Dealnay has the Amazon Kindle Explorer Case for only $11.72.

I went to Dealnay and saw the $11.72 price. That is at Walmart.com and the item is no longer available there. Probably because it was featured on Woot late last year.

I did find the case with the same model number and size at Amazon and ButterflyPhoto.com. It is around $14.99 in both places. ButterflyPhoto has free shipping with no additional purchases AND they are only a few states away from me. I ordered one from there. When it gets here next week, I'll report back here.

If it is the same case I saw that also fits the Sony reader, I'm sure I'll like it very much.

Hello,
Follow-up: I had asked about a stylus for our E-Locity "compacitive" screen tablet.
I also prefer(like Daisemae) a "resistive" screen for many applications and that (other then sound volume and back lighted buttons) has been the "most challenging" Smile aspect of this tablet.
Well, there are stylus available for capacitive screens! Boxwave has them. Also HTC has released one for their tablet/phone.

Costs about $15 and their are even diy videos(not trying that deal Very Happy ) for making your own.
I am ordering one and will let you know how I like it. Very Happy
I knew there had to be others that need the ability for more precise touch.

eLocity A7 Sleeve

Post by keriga on Sat Feb 26, 2011 9:59 pm

I found a great little padded neoprene sleeve for the A7 - in Dollar Tree, of all places. The tag says "Neoprene Laptop Case," but there's not even a netbook on earth that would fit. Not a problem because it's perfect for the 7" tablets. There's no brand name on the tag, but it's item #105189 1012 distributed by Greenbrier International, Inc. of Chesapeake, VA 23320. It measures 7.875" x 10". There are two colors available: all black or turquoise with lack trim. There's enough space for the earbuds, but trying to stuff the charger in would be a tight squeeze and potentially could damage the screen.

If you have an iPad or a similar size tablet, Dollar Tree had one that fits it. Best of all, it's "Dollar Tree, where everything's $1.00."

Yes and no.

The yes part is that you can buy a Archos 9 screen protector and cut it down a little and have full coverage and a custom cut. The no part is that Amazon has a protector but it doesn't cover the entire screen, at least not the one they sent me.
